Keeping cats happy while you travel

Cats seem independent, but they still need someone to check in at least once a day while you're away. The goal is a home that stays clean, quiet and predictable until that visit.

Clean litter, every day

A common rule of thumb is one litter box per cat, plus one extra. Scoop before you leave and ask your sitter to scoop daily.

Food on schedule

A simple timed feeder keeps meals on time between sitter visits. Test it for a few days while you're home first.

Water they'll actually drink

Many cats drink more from moving water. A fountain plus a regular bowl in a second room covers both kinds of cat.

A safe place to hide

New people and quiet houses can stress cats. A covered bed or cave gives them a retreat.

Something to do

Window perches, scratchers and a few rotated toys fight boredom.
